Reiki and Healing Touch

Reiki and Healing Touch are energy therapies in which practitioners consciously use their hands in a heart-centered and intentional way to enhance, support and facilitate physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and self-healing. By utilizing the hands lightly on or close to the body the practitioner is able to clear, balance and energize the human energy system. The human energy system involves the energy field surrounding the body and the energy centers within the body (chakras) which control the energy flow from this field to the physical body. The goal is to restore harmony and balance in the energy system, placing the client in a position to self-heal. It is based on a heart-centered, caring relationship in which the practitioner and client come together energetically. This compliments conventional health care and is used in collaboration with other approaches to health and healing. Healing Touch is used extensively in all areas of nursing. It is also practiced by other allied healthcare professionals such as physical and occupational therapists, counselors, physicians, social workers, and massage therapists. A session of Reiki or Healing Touch may take 30-60 min, or some techniques may be integrated into a traditional Physical Therapy session. Anecdotal and research evidence supports the use of Reiki or Healing Touch in the following:
